Opdateret: 03/28/20 | 28. marts 2020

And those lifelong friendships is one of the biggest gifts I believe travel provides to us.

Hitachi Seaside Park: Tidlig forårsblomst i Ibaraki, Japan

Over for Stillehavet!

IT’S NOT about TRAVEL, IT’S about freedom

Updated: 08/04/2019 (Originally posted 8/17/11)

When I started traveling the world on my first RTW trip, I planned out everything. Where I was going to stay, what I was going to do. “First I’d check out X, then I’d take the train to Y, and then I’d bus to Z.”

Not only was it fun to plan, but I genuinely thought all of my well-laid plans would guide me along as I traveled the world solo.

It was only a few days into my trip when I realized that, while planning is important, those plans will swiftly fly out the window.

Hvorfor?

Because you’ll meet people who will tell you not to miss a certain city or country.

Because you’ll arrive somewhere and love it and want to stay longer.

Or, you’ll hate it and want to leave sooner than you planned.

While the planning is fun, at the end of the day, this is why I love solo travel: it gives you unrestricted freedom.

Admittedly, I can be a very indecisive person. (I’m a Gemini after all). That normally indicates that I end up doing things last minute. and then I normally change those last-minute plans again because I get a sudden, better, brighter idea in my head.

And when you’re a long-term traveler, that’s perfectly ok.

In fact, it’s preferable.

While there is no wrong with enjoying a well-laid plan, when you’re traveling for weeks and months at a time, you need to make room for change. You need to allow serendipity space to come and lure you into an adventure.

That’s what happened on Ko Lipe, which do this day, is one of the best months in all my travels.

By giving myself room to change my plans, to test the waters, I allow myself a chance to experience new things that I would have never dreamed of. Sure, planning is great, but even the best plans can’t account for everything.

I remember growing up and always desiring to be “the captain of my ship.” You know, working because you like what you do, not because you need a paycheck; being able to jet off to some place you want when you want; and having utmost flexibility, time, and freedom for anything.

But then you graduate college with debt, you start working, the responsibilities pile on, you start planning out life, there are societal expectations put on you, and before you know it, you’re stuck. You’re part of that vicious rat race, and it seems like time is never your own.

Then one day you just think to yourself, “How did things get this way? I want out of this box.”

That’s why I quit my job and went traveling.

Though the leap was the hardest part, you realize everything else is easy, and it’s not traveling that draws you in, it’s the freedom and flexibility. It’s about waking up today and saying, “I’m going to Ukraine tomorrow.”

Or you’re going to play golf.

Or maybe take guitar lessons.

Or start that bakery you always wanted to.

Or step to Thailand to show yoga or English or anything else that your heart desires!

I think this topic recently struck me because I’ve been thinking about the last ten years of travel and reflecting a lot.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the rat race. Doing what you’re “supposed” to do because that’s how you’re told life is meant to be lived. You get a job, a wife, a house, kids, and then retire. but one day you wake up, and you’re 30, or 40, or 50, and you realize you never did a lot of the things you really wanted to do.

Maybe that’s why so lots of people have a mid-life crisis. maybe that’s why my daddy made a decision he was going to take up motorcycles again. Or why he gotten that automobile he always wanted. Or why my friend’s mommy changed careers.

I think that feeling is what causes so lots of people to turn to travel.

Yes, it’s terrific to see the world, but a lot of travelers I speak to are really drawn to the sense of freedom and adventure — the limitless possibilities.

While you’re traveling, the days seem to hold limitless potential and opportunity. It’s also why I think long-term travelers have a hard time adjusting back into “the real world.”

After you’ve been out of the box, it’s hard to go back in.

As much as I travel to explore new places and learn about people, I live my life because each day I wake up, I know I can open the door and do anything I want.

For now, that’s travel. exploring my world. maybe a few years from now it’ll be different.

But no matter what I do or where I go, I’ll never really change how I live because I’m not giving up my freedom to do whatever it is that makes me delighted anytime I want.

7 ting at lave på Camp John Hay, Baguio City

sidst opdateret: 19. april 2019.

Theodore Roosevelts sekretær for specificer John Milton Hay.

Metoden antages at have fordelagtige påvirkninger på kroppen.

Updated: 10/10/20 | October 10th, 2020

What is the secret to traveling long term? how do I travel so often? Am I rich? Do I have a depend on fund? Are all my trips paid for by someone else?

What is my secret sauce?

On my first trip to Thailand, I met five backpackers who changed my life. I had a vague sense of what a “backpacker” was from popular culture. They were people who barely showered, stayed in cramped hostels, ate pasta, and partied a lot. It was a something for college kids or those without a real future to do.

Yet meeting them convinced me they had unlocked the secret to travel I didn’t know existed.

I grew up with hotels, tours, and theme parks. The a lot more they told me about their lifestyle – meeting people around the world, living in bungalows on the beach, eating delicious and cheap food, taking local transportation, and just having fun, the a lot more envious I become.

They weren’t tied down to an office job or rules. They were living life while I was just on a momentary break from prison.

Before I met them, I assumed you needed to be rich to travel. but here were people that were living proof that everything I knew about travel was wrong.

While money does help, they simply had found something I didn’t:

ØNSKE.

While I wanted to travel, their desire was strong enough to make it happen.

They just did it.

That is how to travel.

You just do it.

After my first trip to Costa Rica in 2004, I was bitten by the travel bug and have been traveling ever since.

Following my encounter with them, I came home and made my trip happen. My made my life about travel. I cut my expenses, found cheap flights, and did everything I could to pursue my goal of travel.

Traveling is what’s crucial to me, so I find a way to make it happen.

I skip the Starbucks, don’t shop that often, and don’t eat out a lot. I cut corners elsewhere so I can have the time and money to do what I love: travel.

I fake plan dozens of trips every day. If I have unplanned time in my calendar, I think “hmmm, where can I go that week? Let’s figure out how to get there.”

I often hear from people that traveling is out of their reach, that they don’t have the money or the time. They have just too much responsibility. While there are certain constraints on traveling that time and money create (as well as privilege), people do what they want. When you genuinely want something, you go after it.

If you genuinely wanted to travel, you would. You wouldn’t make excuses; you would just find a way.

Excuses are simply a convenient way for people to neglect their own fears.

I travel so often for the same reason my friend always seems to be at a Patriots game, or my other friend has a new pair of shoes, and another always seems to be hiking. That’s what we love and we actively work to realize those goals. Do you want to get that new iPhone? You’ll make it happen.

We always want to make our desires come true.

I choose to work towards making my travel desire a reality.

If you want to know how to travel, you just need to have the desire to just do it!

There are a lot of unknowns in long-term travel. A lot of people aren’t ready to deal with that. However, even if you’ll never spend a year traveling around the world or dedicate your life to vagabonding, that doesn’t indicate travel will be out of your reach.

Travel is a terrific thing. Life is short and I don’t think we were ever indicated to spend it droning away in cubicles. travel can show you all the appeal in the world — from chaotic markets in Southeast Asia and majestic cities in Europe to dense jungles and exotic wildlife in central America.

Everywhere you go, every day something new happens. new people, new places, and new experiences.

People like to think that travel costs a lot of money or that you just can’t make it happen. My only hope is that by reading this blog, you realize that you can. I’m not rich, but I budget well and I find good travel deals. I work hard so that I can play hard.

With a little flexibility and a little price scouting, you can get anywhere on any budget. people are always surprised when they see how cheap it can be and how little effort it really takes.

Once you have the desire and motivation to go, nothing can stop you.

SIPALAY travel guide with budget schedule

I should’ve listened when they said, “Go the extra mile.”

The last time I was in Negros Occidental, I burned many of my time in Bacolod and went as far south as the municipality of Cauayan. I was a travel newbie then and was only interested in the apparent and popular. At the time, I had heard of Sipalay City. Locals kept discussing it, urging us to make time for it. “You’re already in Cauayan, you might as well check out Sipalay.” but because it didn’t sound any proverbial bell, I swept it under the rug, where I keep anything I find outside of my comfort zone.

It’s been six years because that trip. Sipalay City, the jewel that sparks a lot of pride in the heart of the locals, stays an obscure dot on the tourism map of the Philippines. I still felt like I knew nothing about it. So when the soles of my feet touched Negros Island once again, I knew I was in for a surprise. It was time to finally go that extra mile. and that extra mile was so extra! Sipalay is phenomenal.

Understanding Sipalay City

Sipalay City is one of the twelve component cities in Negros Occidental. but before you conjure up images of skyscrapers, know that it is far from being highly urbanized. In numerous ways, it still feels much more like a small town than an urban center. The atmosphere stays pretty laid-back and rustic, with the city center composed of just a few blocks lined by typically empty streets. Don’t expect fast food stores, malls, or supermarkets.

Sipalay’s economy was fueled mostly by sugar and mines, but it is slowly shifting to one that is driven by tourism. budget and upscale resorts are sprouting in every nook and cranny of its splendidly crumpled landscape. lots of small rainforest-carpeted hills guard its coast, hiding a stretch of white and golden sand in between. visitors are here for the beaches, and in Sipalay, there is no running out of them.

Here are some much more facts you might want to know:

Language: Hiligaynon (Ilonggo). English is widely understood.

Currency: Philippine peso (PhP). PhP100 = USD2, EUR 1.65, KRW 22000, JPY218

Mode of payment: Cash. We found one ATM (Landbank). If you’re coming from Bacolod and you need to withdraw, do so in Bacolod. A few resorts accept credit report card, but cash is still preferred.

Electricity: The conventional voltage is 220V. conventional socket is type A (two pins).

When to check out Sipalay

Weather-wise, the best time to check out is between December to May, with February to April being the most ideal.

However, keep in mind that December and the March-May periods are also top seasons so expect the crowd to balloon. June is the start of the rainy season. Thankfully, Sipalay is out of the typical typhoon path and it is rarely gets direct hits.

How to get to Sipalay

The Bacolod-Silay airport is the gateway to Negros Occidental, which Sipalay is part of. From Bacolod, the capital, it’s just 5-6 hours away. However, Dumaguete airport in twin province Negros Oriental is actually a tad closer. The difference isn’t much though, so you can just pick whichever is less expensive or better suited to your itinerary.

From Bacolod Airport

At the airport, you may take a shuttle/van (P150) but it will terminate at SM City Bacolod. If you’re not traveling alone or carrying heavy baggage, the most practical way is to just take a taxi or GrabTaxi directly to South Ceres Bus terminal and split the cost. Fare: around P250 (if meter is used).

At the South Ceres Bus Terminal, hop into the bus going to Hinoba-an or Sipalay. There’s one practically every hour. travel time: 5 hours. Fare: P209 (non-aircon bus), P253 (aircon bus).

Tell the chauffeur to drop you off in Sipalay (if you take the Hinoba-an bus).

From Sipalay bus station, take a tricycle to your hotel or resort. If your hotel is in the city center, you can go on foot. If it’s on a beach outside the city, take a tricycle. Fare: P150 per person.

From Dumaguete Airport

From the airport, take a tricycle to Dumaguete Ceres Terminal. Fare: P100-P300, depending upon your nego skills. You may also get out of the airport vicinity and ride a multicab to the city center.

At Dumaguete Ceres Terminal, boaRd bussen går til Sipalay. Far: omkring P290.

Sipalays sydkyst

Cellulær modtagelse (signal) er godt her.

Sydkyst.

Jamont Hotel (Sipalay centrum)

.

Sipalay Jewel Guest House (City Center)

Driftwood Village (Sugar Beach)

Her er deres satser:

Værelser m/ privat toilettet (fra november 2017)

God til 2 PAX: P900-1200

God til 4 PAX: P1500

God til 6 PAX: P1800-2000

Ekstra person: 300 pr. Hoved

Rum i indfødte stil (kun fan, delt badeværelse)

God til 2 PAX: P450-650

Soveseng: P250 pr. Person

Steder at tjekke ud i Sipalay

Til ikke-dykrs, the beaches and coves are the highlight of any stay in Sipalay. Thankfully, many of them can be went to in one day, if you decide not to stay long. You can hop from one attraction to another in two ways:

By tricycle. The tricycle is the main mode of transportation in the city. but they are not as common as you might think. In areas outside poblacion, it’s rarely to find a passing tricycle. You will have to ask a hotel or resort staff to charter one for you. From the city center to anywhere outside, prepare P150-P200 per person. Sometimes, the chauffeur agrees to P250-P350 per 2 pax. Hence, it’s best to hire a tricycle for an entire day. A whole-day Tricycle trip of the city costs P1500 (max. 4 pax).

Med båd. From Poblacion Beach, you can charter a boat to take you to the same areas as the tricycle tour. cost is the same: P1500. I’m pretty sure many resorts offer island hopping trips too, but they might cost a bit more.

Whatever you take, you will be able to check out the following destinations:

Tinagong Dagat

This is a small, private cove peppered with rocky islets, with some linked by wooden bridges. The area is handled by a resort that is easily available from the main road. cross the long bridge and skirt around the islet on the far end and you’ll find the base of a concrete staircase (of around 100 steps). Climb to the park atop to get a fantastic view of the surrounding paradise.

Entrance fee: P30

Perth Paradise Resort

This is where you’ll find this swimming pool with that renowned view. The resort occupies an isolated hillside, with the pool crowning one. To get to the pool, you will have to climb another staired path. We actually spent one night here (P2500), but you can also check out on a day tour. Actually, I recommend this only for a short visit. There’s not much to do. It’s instagrammable and the view is glorious, but that’s just about it.

Entrance Fee: P80 for adults, P50 for kids.
Pool use: P100 per person

Punta Ballo

Another stretch of golden sand. This is where much more upscale resorts, such as easy Diving, Robinson Cruse beach Resort, and artistic Dive Center, are located.

Sugar Beach

Sipalays mange populære strand. It’s a long strip of, uhm, sugary sand cut in half by a stream estuary. Sugar beach many typically refers to the half north of the river, cloistered from the rest of Sipalay. directions to this beach can be quite overwhelming at first.

If you’re on a boat tour, no problem; you will be taken directly to the beach.

If you’re on a tricycle tour, the tricycle is going to take you to the jump-off point near the mouth of the stream (far from the highway). From here, you will have to ride a boat to the other side of the stream (Boat fare: P50) then walk to the resort area. You can also charter a boat to take you directly to the resort area (Fare: P300).

Poblacion Beach

The beach fronting Sipalay City Center. Make sure you end your trip here for two reasons. First, it faces west, making it a wonderful spot to view the sunset. We did it on two consecutive nights and it was stunning both times. Such a unwinding sight!

Second, running parallel this beach is Sipalay Food Park, which is composed of several inasal and barbeque places and small food kiosks. have your dinner here!

Other things to perform in Sipalay City

Visit Danjugan Island. It’s a marvelous piece of paradise in Cauayan, the town next to Sipalay. The island has five lagoons, in two of which you can kayak. and you can snorkel to see its dynamic marine life including huge clams and enormous corals. It’s not to be missed in this part of Negros Occidental. Day trips from P1950 (including food and boat transfers). much more info here: Danjugan Island

Dykke. Sipalay is a fantastic diving destination. many beachfront properties south of the city center are also dive resorts, including easy Diving and artistic Dive Center. If you don’t know how yet, they offer beginner courses.

White Water Rafting in Davao, Philippines

White water rafting was something I had always wanted to experience. In our recent Camiguin trip, we tried to spend one day in Cagayan de Oro (since the airport was there) but, unfortunately, we couldn’t find a way to squeeze it in our itinerary so we just let it go and planned to come back to CDO in the future.

When the poor Traveler found out that white water rafting was part of our Highland adventure in Davao, I was surprised, pleasantly surprised. I didn’t know rafting was one of the activities the city of Davao had to offer. but we had to wait until the second day for this activity.

The day before, everyone in the group expressed their excitement to finally do this. all of us were rafting virgins (LOL). None of us had tried white water rafting before and none had a clue on what to expect.

On our second day, everyone was up as early as 6am. We had buffet breakfast at Microtel (part of the package) and then prepared our things. At 7:30am, we were all in the van ready to depart for Davao Crocodile Park where the office of Davao Wild Water adventure is located.

When we arrived, the first thing we did was sign the waivers. Although it’s not really dangerous because you will be fully equipped, there’s always that risk. (There’s always that risk whatever we do, lol.)

After that, the gearing up began! This is the time to look for and try on the helmets and vests. It is important that they fit perfectly because your life will depend on it. one of my pals actually slammed his head on a boulder accidentally while riding the rapids but he didn’t get hurt because of the helmet.

Evanjohnn’s waiver (Photoblogger, FocalGlass.com)
Find the vest that best fits you.
Important reminder: Bring a cap because the helmets have that weird, unpleasant smell. So if you don’t want that smell to stick to your hair, bring a cap.

Once the fitting was over, the orientation started. They showed thrilling videos — rafts capsizing, tourists bouncing off of the raft into the water, and more. It was scary at first look but in reality, you’d actually want to jump off to the water and just let yourself be drifted along by the waves. I’ll explain later.

After the orientation, we climbed into the jeepney that would take us to Davao River. I wasn’t able to estimate how long the travel time was because I was asleep during the drive. Hahaha. When we arrived in the drop off area, there was another orientation. This time, it was more specific and detailed and you would really want to listen. This was the point when we were told to wear the life vests and helmets and taught some basic rafting and drifting skills.

The jeepney that took us to Davao River.
Orientation!!!
Second briefing! photo by boom Boncan.
Ready for the drill! photo by boom Boncan.
Note: buddy system is implemented so you will need to find a partner that will be with you throughout the course.

We were then divided into smaller groups on a per raft basis. The usual number of tourists per raft is 4-6 but on our raft, we were only four. Hej hej. Each group was led by a “captain,” who would give orders whether to paddle backwards or forwards, slower or harder.

And then, the drill. before facing the rapids, you will be taught how to paddle, what to do when you get thrown off of the raft, how to pick up someone who gets thrown off of the raft and more. and then it begins.

The water was brown because it rained the night before.

You will find one guy kayaking all around. He’s called the “spotter.” Make sure you smile when you see him because he takes pics and videos most of the time. He also helps pick up people who falls out of the raft.

Many rapids await those who dare but it was really thrilling and enjoyable. Surprisingly, you’ll find yourself longing for more. and many times, your guide will encourage you to get off the boat into the water and be drifted by the current. Although it sounds scary, it was actually GREAAAAT!

The drill begins! photo by boom Boncan.
Så er spillet i gang!
A bridge over Davao River. photo by boom Boncan.
Halfway, all rafts will dock at a sandy part of the riverbanks and distribute lunch boxes. Ours were rice, chicken adobo, fish fillet and egg. They will also provide water and orange juice.

After lunch, you will encounter the more challenging rapids. In fact, one raft from our group capsized. It looked fun. LOL. We tried several times to get ours capsized but it didn’t work. However, two members of our group fell out of the raft and were picked up by the raft following us. No, I’m not one of them. LOL. My feet were hooked well onto the raft.

The entire course lasted for 3-4 hours. The funny thing was, during the activity I didn’t feel tired. It wasn’t until we got back at the hotel when we realized we had lost all our energy and our arms, well, we couldn’t feel our arms. Hahaha.

Some tips You might want to Consider

The Photoblogger of FocalGlass.com was one of the bloggers with us on this tour.

Lær at trække vejret ordentligt, inkonsekvent panikfuld vejrtrækning vil drukne dig
– The PhotoBlogger, focalglass.com (klik her for at læse resten af hans indlæg)

THE 9 finest HOSTELS IN BANGKOK

Last Updated: 02/24/22 | February 24th, 2022

Bangkok is a wonderful city full of history, gorgeous temples, as well as excitement. It’s an excellent location for travelers, as there is a great deal to do as well as see here. It is one of my preferred cities in the entire world, as well as I can never get sufficient of it! Stick me in a Thai market surrounded by food stalls as well as I’m a happy man!

De 7 bedste vandrerhjem i Australien

Opdateret: 3/23/22 | 23. marts 2022

Bedste hostels i Australien

Bedste hostel for budgetrejsende: Gilligan’s
Bedste hostel for solo kvindelige rejsende: Vågn op!
Bedste hostel til digitale nomader: Kimberly Travellers Lodge
Bedste hostel til fest: Gilligan’s
Bedste samlede hostel: Base St. Kilda

Vil du have detaljerne på hvert hostel? Her er min omfattende liste over de bedste vandrerhjem i Australien:

Prislegenden (pr. Nat)

$ = Under 25 år

$$ = 25-35 AUD

$$$ = over 35 aud

1. Base St. Kilda (Melbourne)

Fantastisk sted at møde mennesker

Senge fra 32 aud, private værelser fra 95 aud.

Book Base St. Kilda her!

2. Vågn op! (Sydney)

Måske for meget. Svært at huske!
