Weekend i Boston: Den ideelle 2 -dages tidsplan

Dag 1 i Boston

For those who aren’t quite as passionate about history, you can head over to Boston Harbor instead. One really fun option down here is hopping on a duck tour.

This has nothing to finish with the birds that quack but rather with the amphibious car of the same name. On these tours, you’ll cruise around by land and sea to take in the views of Boston. just click here to learn much more about this highly rated trip and book your tickets.

Another option is this informative sightseeing cruise. You’ll spend an hour and a half going around the inner and outer harbor while learning much more about the city’s history.

Aften

For those who finished up the freedom Trail, you can just spend the rest of your evening over there in Bunker Hill/Charlestown. options include the legendary Warren Tavern as well as the Brewer’s Fork beer garden.

Speaking of beer, did you know that beer actually played a large role in the history of Boston and the country as a whole?

It was best here in Boston’s taverns that revolutionaries like Sam Adams and Paul Revere gathered to share ideas over a few frosty mugs of beer.

Hop on this historic pub crawl to check out some of the city’s oldest taverns. Each one dates back to the 1800s and some are even older.

In addition to sharing stories, your guide will also recommend some beers that you can only get in Boston. trips run at either 3 or 7 PM.

Beer lovers may want to consider adding a trip of the legendary Samuel Adams brewery to their itinerary. It’s one of the most well-known beers in the country and you can jump on a trip between 11-5 on Saturdays. Head to their site to see the options and book your spot.

Dag 2 i Boston

With just 2 days in Boston, you’re going to have to make some choices.

Unfortunately, you can’t see it all in just one weekend! That’s why I’ll present you with a few options for how to spend day two. What you do will depend mostly on the time of year you check out and your interests.

Morgen

Ease into another big day of exploring Boston with a leisurely brunch. Peregrine in the Whitney hotel is an outstanding choice, as is The Emory. call ahead to make a reservation to avoid disappointment and long waits.

After a big meal and possibly a little bit of the bubbly, you have some choices to make. If you want to continue the history lesson we started yesterday, you can check out the Boston Tea party Ships & Museum.

Here you have the chance to relive one of the most essential events in the country’s history by disposing boxes of tea overboard in protest. Tickets cost $30 and you can click here to book them online in advance.

Another option for history buffs is the JFK presidential Library. learn all about the life of the 35th president of the united states and Boston native through interactive exhibits that include a large collection of personal documents. Tickets cost $14 and can be booked on their website.

The Boston area is home to some of the most prestigious universities in the world, including MIT, the university of Massachusetts, and Harvard. two of which are named in the top 3 universities in the world — making them top attractions in Boston.

You can explore the Harvard campus on a walking trip led by students. There’s the option to tack on a check out to the museum of natural history as well if you’re so inclined.

It’s also possible to make your own trip of Harvard. just click here to download a totally free map along with an accompanying audio tour.

Eftermiddag

A terrific option for kicking off an afternoon in Boston is a trip up to the Skywalk Observatory. From the 50th floor you’ll get some epic views of the city. Tickets are $21 if you purchase separately and it’s also included in the Go Boston Card.

It’s located in the Back Bay area of the city, which is home to trendy Newbury Street.

Full of historic brownstones, this beautiful street has tons of boutique shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars to choose from. Click here for a rundown of all the various options.

One place you ought to certainly check out is Newbury Comics. here you’ll find a large collection of pop culture memorabilia, from comic books to vinyl records.

Even if there isn’t a game going on, it’s well worth it to make theshort trip over to Fenway Park. home to the storied Boston Red Sox baseball team, this is the oldest ballpark in the country.

Built over a century ago, Fenway is known as “America’s many beloved ballpark.” It’s certainly a special place to visit, and you can do so on an hour-long guided tour. These go on sale 30 days in advancement and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Of course, it’s more suitable to check out Fenway Park for an actual ballgame! As one of the smallest parks with one of the most successful teams in recent memory, tickets are not easy to come by.

If you’re planning a weekend in Boston and the Sox are in town, it’s best to protected your tickets well in advance.

It’s well worth splurging on good seats to see a game in this legendary ballpark. get some peanuts and cracker Jacks and root, root, root for the home team!

Should you strike out on getting tickets or there isn’t a game, another option over here is the Back Bay Fens park. delight in a serene stroll through a world war II-era community garden and a rose garden. There’s also a WWII Memorial and a Japanese Bell here.

I realize that not everyone is interested in seeing a baseball stadium whether there’s a game or not!

If you get stunning summer weather on your 2 days in Boston, you may want to spend your afternoon at Castle Hill. It’s home to the historic Fort Independence, which is only open in the summer. There are totally free trips led by volunteers between midday and 3:30.

You can also just kick back and unwind at the beautiful pleasure Bay Beach. I bet you weren’t expecting a little beach trip in the middle of your Boston weekend trip!

Another fun option for a weekend afternoon is this VIP brewery & beer tasting tour. It includes stopping at 4 different breweries to sample some tasty craft beers, as well as a hearty lunch or dinner. You’ll get to sample some of the finest suds in the city and delight in a stunning buzz for the rest of your day.

If you didn’t take the Sam Adams trip on day one and still want to check out a big brewery, Harpoon is located best near the harbor and also runs trips until 5:30 on Sundays. You can also just check out the taproom for some food and a few cold ones.

Aften

It’s been a pretty wild two days in Boston so far.

You’ve covered a ton of ground in a short time and finished up a whirlwind trip of the city. That’s why it’s time to do whatever your heart desires on your last night in town.

Of course, I’m not going to leave you hanging with no recommendations! A terrific way to spend your final evening in Boston is by taking a sunset cruise around the harbor.

As an avid live music fan, my personal recommendation would be to head to a show. Boston has a thriving music scene with venues of all shapes and sizes. I always check Jambase to see who’s playing in a city when I travel.

Perhaps you just want to chill out and have a drink. It’s best there in the name at drink – a hip bar that’s “dedicated entirely to the craft of the cocktail.”

They’re so confident in their drink mixing abilities here that they don’t even have a menu! drinks are created especially for your taste with the freshest ingredients.

Your weekend in Boston can also come full circle if you head over to 21st Amendment. If you’re not well-versed in us history, the 21st amendment repealed the 18th one, officially ending the prohibition of alcohol.

They have a trivia night on Sundays, which is a fun way to end the Boston weekend.

HOW TO get around new ZEALAND ON A budget

Last Updated: 1/4/21 | January 4th, 2021

New Zealand is an easy country to navigate. Buses go everywhere, automobiles constantly pick up hitchhikers, campervans are easy to rent, and backpacker bus tours zigzag around the country.

Plus, there are trains and planes.

In short, there’s no shortage of transportation options.

On my last trip to new Zealand, I used almost every one of these options. Today, I want to share the pros and cons of each (as well as some estimated prices) so you know how to get around new Zealand in the most cost-effective and efficient way possible!

Backpacker Tours

One of the most popular ways travelers get across new Zealand is by backpacker bus. These buses offer a hop-on/hop-off service that allows travelers both the flexibility to go at their own pace and the convenience of having activities and accommodation organized for them. new Zealand has two major hop-on/hop-off buses: The Kiwi Experience and Stray.

The Kiwi Experience – The Kiwi Experience is the biggest and most popular backpacker bus in new Zealand. It attracts mainly young gap-year travelers. I like how they go out of their way to make sure everyone socializes and gets to know each other: the drivers play a lot of games and icebreakers, and there are group dinners most nights. The downside is that: (a) the buses seat around 55 people, and when they’re full, they get a little bit cliquey (and during the busy season, the bus is pretty much always full); and (b) the passengers are really focused on getting drunk (the bus’s affectionate nickname is “The green Fuck Bus”), hence why so many young people take it. I’d say if you’re 25 or younger (or just looking for a party), this bus is for you. tours range from 2-28 days and cost between 85-1,799 NZD per person.

Stray travel – stray has smaller buses, providing a more intimate setting and making it easier to meet people. While there are many gap-year travelers on the bus, stray get more older, independent travelers. The bus drivers don’t play as many games or have as many icebreakers, making it a bit awkward when you first step on the bus alone and aren’t an extrovert. If you aren’t really looking to party a lot or want to spend time with more mature travelers, stray is for you. tours range from 10-24 days and cost between 1,000-2,400 NZD per person.

For a small-group tours that caters to more than just the backpacker crowd, check out Haka Tours. They offer some epic adventure tours all around the country and are a good choice for travelers looking to get their adrenaline pumping.

Trains

New Zealand has three train lines: northern Explorer, Coastal Pacific, and TranzAlpine. These are not commuter trains but scenic train rides: they come with viewing platforms, audio commentary, information packets, and big windows for taking photos.

Here are some example prices (in NZD):

79

Coastal Pacific
(Christchurch-Picton)

99

69

TranzAlpine
(Christchurch-Greymouth)

76

Prices will vary based on when you book. expect prices to be upwards of 50% more expensive if booked last minute.

I took the TranzAlpine across the South Island. It had been a dream of mine to do since my first check out in 2010 and I loved every minute of it. It lived up to all the hype. You pass rivers and mountains, cross gorges, and roll through vibrant green farmland. It was a really peaceful, informative, and scenic way to get across the South Island and made me wish there were more trains around the country (come on, NZ, you can do it!).

This isn’t the most efficient or cheapest way to get around (heck, the northern Explorer from Auckland to Wellington is 11 hours!) but it’s worth every penny. It’s an incredibly scenic way to see the country.

Buses

If you aren’t renting a car, buses are the best and cheapest way to get around new Zealand. Buses stop in every town, and there are frequent departures from even the smallest cities.

InterCity, new Zealand’s largest public bus network, is your main option. skip Bus, a low-cost coach bus similar to Megabus, is available on the North Island and has over a dozen stops, making it another budget-friendly choice if you’re shopping for tickets. (Note: as of January 2021, skip Bus service is suspended due to COVID-19).

These are some example InterCity ticket costs for sample routes to help you budget (prices in NZD):

InterCity has two travel passes, both of which valid for up to 12 months: FlexiPass, an hours-based bus pass (10-80 hours) designed for backpackers and independent travelers; and the TravelPass, a fixed-route pass that’s only good for spots on that specific route.

The FlexiPass costs between 98-561 NZD ($69-395 USD). You can top up your hours if you run out. The TravelPass costs between 125-549 NZD ($88-386 USD).

With the InterCity TravelPass, you can stop anywhere along the route. For example, if your pass includes travel between Picton and Christchurch, you could do Picton to Blenheim, Blenheim to Kaikoura, and Kaikoura to Christchurch all on one trip.

I bought a 15-hour FlexiPass. adding up my journeys on the South Island individually, the price of my tickets would have been 172 NZD. I paid 135 NZD so the pass did save me money. However, there’s a caveat: you can only use the FlexiPass on InterCity buses, and on the South Island they contract out a lot of routes, so I couldn’t use my pass on most of the routes to Milford Sound, Mt. Cook, or Bluff (to get to Stewart Island).

So what’s a traveler to do?

If you’re booking far in advance and getting the low-cost discount fares, don’t buy a pass. I’d also skip the big fixed-route pass, as they don’t offer value when compared to other giant passes or tour operators.

I’d buy a FlexiPass since it is hours-based and valid for up to twelve months. combine that with other low-cost tickets bought far in advance, ridesharing, or anything else. mix and match what you do for optimal savings. use the pass for expensive routes and cheaper options for other, shorter routes!

Flying

Flying in new Zealand isn’t that cheap, as there are only two companies that dominate the entire market: Air new Zealand and Jetstar — and on most routes, it’s just Air new Zealand. While you can find some low-cost fares on shorter routes or by booking a few months in advance, unless you are really pressed for time or traveling from island to island, I’d skip flying.

Campervans and automobile Rentals

Campervans litter new Zealand, especially on the nature-heavy South Island, where people hike and camp, because they serve as accommodation and transportation all in one, and for budget-conscious travelers, that’s a win-win. There are five main rental agencies:

Jucy

Travellers Autobarn

Spaceships

Britz

Wicked Campers

Jucy is the most dominant in the country; I saw more of its automobiles and vans than any other company.

Prices vary a lot. Your daily rate will change depending on where you pick the vehicle up, if you are dropping it off at a different place, how long you are renting it for, how far in advance you book, and when you book (going during the high season? prices seem to double!). You need a degree in accounting to figure out how these companies price their cars!

If you drive, getting a campervan is going to be one of the most economical way to get around. You’ll be able to use your van/car as accommodation, pick up travelers to split the cost of gas, and maybe find travel partners to split the cost of the vehicle itself. If you are spending $70 NZD per day for a Jucy campervan that can fit three people, that’s a savings of up to 50% compared to a hostelog Daily Bus Ride, der sætter dig tilbage $ 30-50 om dagen.

Hitchhiking

Hitchhiking er let i New Zealand.

Tjek desuden tommelfingrene op NZ eller Carpool New Zealand Ridesharing -apps.

***

Nomads (Queenstown)

Urbanz (Christchurch)

Rainbow Lodge (Taupo)

Sikkerhedsfløj (for alle under 70)

Forsikre min rejse (for dem over 70)

Medjet (til yderligere hjemsendelse af hjemsendelse)

DO YOU requirement medical EVACUATION INSURANCE?

Updated: 1/30/22 | January 30th, 2022

A note on COVID-19: comprehending exactly how medical evacuation insurance coverage works is more important than ever. Medjet just recently revealed they would begin transporting members hospitalized for COVID globally. For more info on their present COVID coverage, click here.

While most budget plan travelers are material with a basic travel insurance coverage package, today I wished to talk about one specific element that I get asked about a lot: buying additional medical evacuation insurance.

When I very first started roaming the world, I presumed that basic travel insurance coverage would cover the expense of getting back house should I get injured abroad. Isn’t that what their “medical evacuation” protection does?

I was shocked to find that, more frequently than not, that isn’t the case.

Turns out, just since you get injured as well as need medical transportation doesn’t mean you get sent home.

If you checked out the fine print, most travel insurance coverage business only cover your medical transfer to the “best” medical facility near where you are. This is what they phone call the “nearest acceptable facility.”

They choose where you go, not you.

They choose what the very best facility is.

They choose what is suitable.

And when your travel insurance coverage business sends you to a hospital, they have satisfied their evacuation responsibility to you. That means that if you’re not sent home, you might be liable to then cover the expense of getting house — which can be a great deal of money.

Now, this is not to state that “regular” travel insurance coverage is bad. It just means that people believe it covers a great deal more than it does as well as are frequently upset when they discover out otherwise. I mean, I like travel insurance coverage (I never leave house without it), however it’s important to understand its limitations. always checked out the fine print!

This is where comprehensive medical evacuation protection can are available in handy in addition to your existing travel insurance coverage plan.

What is medical Evacuation Insurance?

First, let’s get one thing clear: medical evacuation insurance coverage is not the precise exact same thing as travel insurance coverage (and vice versa).

Of course, travel insurance coverage generally includes medical evacuation insurance, however travel insurance coverage is particularly designed to protect travelers from monetary loss in the event of trip interruptions as well as cancelations, in addition to injuries while abroad.

Cut yourself on a rock while hiking? travel insurance coverage will help.

Baggage lost or delayed after a flight? travel insurance coverage will help.

Someone pickpocket your phone? travel insurance coverage will help.

For most travel as well as medical emergencies, travel insurance coverage will suffice.

But where it frequently falls short is when you requirement to be repatriated.

Most travel insurance coverage plans do include decent protection for medical evacuation — however they only take you to the nearest facility that can handle your emergency. Det betyder:

No assurance of going house

No assurance of going to the absolute finest medical facility to help you

No assurance of somebody on the ground to walk you with the process — you’re usually delegated handle all of that on your own.

And for some people, that’s not great enough.

Why is medical Evacuation insurance coverage So Important?

When I was stabbed in Colombia, I went to a regional hospital. I was on my own, delegated navigate the process with what bit damaged Spanish I knew. While I got fundamental medical care, it was not precisely the very best in the world. I flew back to the us soon after that to get the care I needed.

I was lucky that I didn’t need surgical treatment as well as that I was able to handle the circumstance on my own. I didn’t necessarily requirement medical evacuation insurance coverage for that incident.

But not everybody will be that lucky. Earthquakes, monsoons, hurricanes, floods, as well as fires do occur — as well as the listing goes on.

Each as well as every year, 10 million travelers are hospitalized abroad — with over two million needing medical transportation!
And should you requirement to be evacuated because of an injury, weather condition event, or political crisis, you definitely don’t want to be stuck with a expensive repatriation bill. After all, evacuation as well as transportation aren’t cheap. costs for a medical evacuation or medical transfer can variety from $30,000 to upwards of $200,000.

Yes, you checked out that right: $200,000!

Unless you have that type of money lying around, you’ll want to make sure the insurance coverage that you buy covers you for medical evacuation, transportation, transfers, as well as repatriation. You don’t want to be stranded at a foreign medical facility — particularlY Hvis denne facilitet ikke giver den grad af pleje, du har brug for.

Derudover medjet:

Ketchup Food Community: Where to eat in Baguio City, Philippines

Update: Ketchup Food neighborhood has permanently closed.

My bowl was brimming with hot tom kha gai however the brewing envy inside me bubbled over with my eyes as I threw wanting looks at the other bowls as well as plates on our table. We were a huge group, celebrating the recent success of the 2nd Baguio blog Conference, where I provided a short talk. The organizers treated the speakers to dinner at Ketchup Food Community, a foodie’s haven that I had not tried before.

A fairly new dining destination, Ketchup Food neighborhood was established in March 2012. It is really a cluster of five little restaurants, each offering a different cuisine, perfect for those who want to try a plateful of whatever in one seating.

Canto is a steakhouse famous for its lomo ribs;

Happy stomach serves Thai favorites;

Rumah Sate boasts an Indonesian-Malaysian menu;

Green Pepper offers Western sandwiches as well as pastas;

Rancho Norte completes the listing with their Filipino dishes.

The finest part, you can order from any type of (or all) of them even without altering tables.

Happy Tummy
Grøn peber
Rumah Sate
In our case, we settled down at Canto. While most of us ordered a half slab of their famous lomo ribs, Mica (Senyorita), Nikka as well as Owen (Two to Travel) as well as I opted with having a range as well as had our waitress make a quick run to the other restaurants by ordering something more Asian. Nikka as well as Owen fancied a bowl of laksa from Rumah Sate. Mica as well as I went Thai as well as had pad thai as well as tom kha gai. (Hey, rhyming!) The whole idea of order changing was refreshing particularly upon discovering that all dishes would appear on just one bill.

The laksa was very first to be served as well as my eyes instantly turned eco-friendly with envy. I am not a laksa type of guy (as I have told a number of times in my Malaysia posts) however that soup looked rich as well as tasty. The head of the shrimps peeked above the surface, as if taunting me however I was as well timid to ask Owen as well as Nikka for a spoonful. They looked extremely satisfied, though. Owen as well as Nikka, not the shrimps.

When the ribs complied with right after, Mica as well as I looked at each other in an instant. Those were big slabs! The plates traveled across the table as well as in front of me as well as I wished to grab one as well as just beg whoever ordered it to switch it with my life as well as pride.

Canto’s Lomo Ribs (P190)
Laksa as well as Tom Kha gai
It took 15 more minutes before our Thai delights lastly made an appearance at our table. even before I had a taste of my tom kha gai, I understood I made a fantastic option as soon as I touched the warm bowl. It had been raining the entire day as well as in the chilly Baguio atmosphere, I requirement some warming up, which the soup effectively delivered. The soup was rich as well as milky (coconut milk?), packed with a blend of herbs as well as mushrooms. Its aroma enabled a sampling of exactly how far in the gastronomic scale it would reach.

I dipped a spoon as well as lastly had a taste, washing away all my infidelities — my longing for the other dishes. The sour broth that drowned the soft poultry bits tickled the palate. My only complaint was that it was not pungent (hot/spicy) enough, which I had come to expect in all tom yums as well as tom kha gais in the world. Still, in the Philippines, it was one of the very best Thai soups that graced my tastebuds.

But the picture of the ribs floating just inches from my deal with made a deep mark on my extremely malleable memory. The next day, Mica as well as I decided to go back to Ketchup for lunch. This time, I went for those lomo ribs!

Like the night before, the serving was humongous, particularly thinking about the cost (P190). four ribs marinated as well as grilled to perfection, as well as scribbled with a zigzag of wonderful (barbeque?) sauce sat quite on my plate next to a scoop of mashed potato as well as a lot of salad. The ribs were meaty as well as so tender, the flesh quickly let go of the bones with a gentle fork poking. The sweetness of the sauce mixed well with the smoky taste of the meat — immaculate!

Canto’s lomo ribs half slab with mashed potato as well as salad (P190)
The mashed potato was nothing remarkable however the salad was something else. topped with bits of watermelons, it has a sugary rough taste as well as structure that pushed this side meal to the dessert border. The lettuce looked bright as well as had that crisp that screamed freshness. I just desire the serving of both the carbs as well as the vegetables were larger, though.

The service was a bit sluggish on both occasions, however that may be since the location was packed. The servers were polite however they failed to remember that I ordered a glass of almond-lychee gulaman. Still, the food made up for whatever glitches in the service jeg stødte på.

Tradition – Claridge’s

Fashionistas-Berkeleys Pret-a-Portea

The Hunchback of Notre Dame”.

Mandalay Inn: Where to stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Published: January 2013.

After various wrong turns, I finally reached the street that harbors the hotel I was staying in. It was past midnight in Siem Reap, and I was trying my hardest not to look crazy drunk as I walked back to the hotel after a night of partying in Pub Street. When I finally made it to the reception, a helpful staff member smiled at me, took the essential to my room from the pigeonhole, and handed it to me. great service — it was that one asset of Mandalay Inn that I saw radiate through even when I was severely intoxicated.

Mandalay Inn is a budget hotel located along Sivatha St., just five minutes away from the Old Market and the Siem Reap River. It is tucked in a city corner where several inns and hostels abound. I booked this hotel upon the strong recommendation of a friend, who was with me on this trip. He had been to Siem Reap much more than a couple of times before and each time, he stayed at Mandalay Inn. Never, he said, did he encounter any problems and the staff had grown to know him already.

We arrived in Siem Reap in the early evening and their employees were the first to greet us after a long time trying to find the hotel. That’s probably the only grievance I can think of about the place, it’s not very easy to spot. There was a small red signage by the gate but there was also a tree blocking it.

My original plan was to stay in Siem Reap for only three days and head back to Bangkok. We spent all our nights at Mandalay Inn and the experience at this hotel was much more than satisfactory. We booked a twin room for USD10, which did not come as a surprise to me because I already had an idea of the price range of the budget hotels in Siem Reap. I was surprised, however, by the size of the room. It was bigger that I was expecting and the restroom was also much, much much more spacious that the picture I painted in my head.

Bedroom and bathroom

Our beds

The room was equipped with cable television  TV, a fan, a lamp, hot and cold shower, and a safety box — just the basic things you would want in a room. Yes, it was not air-conditioned but there was really no need for it when I was there. It was actually cool, practically cold, inside the room. It was also very clean and the bedding smelled nice. guests are requested to remove their slippers or shoes when entering the building (but of course you may take them inside your room), which makes the common area squeaky clean. The wooden floor is so shiny all the time that it felt like stepping on it was a mortal sin. Eller noget.

There are wooden sculptures of Buddha and other religious figures at the common area, which also houses a good number of books that guests may use. It was actually very quiet inside because it fostered a library-like atmosphere.

A wooden image of Buddha at the common area

But it was the service that really stood out for me. They were always smiling and were very willing, if not eager to help. and you I could feel that they were sincere in providing help and making sure that we were well-taken care of. They were generous with information and they became my go-to people when confirming prices, directions, and other helpful details.

Mandalay Inn also provides Angkor Wat trips and other travel packages, as well as shuttle and bus services for those who wish to visit other parts of Cambodia, Thailand, even Vietnam. We booked our bus ride back to Bangkok with them, no problem. They also have a small restaurant but I never got to try it.

Would I recommend this hotel? Helt bestemt. I don’t see any reason why not. The location is okay, the rooms are clean, and the service is fantastic. It delivered much much more that I was expecting from a budget hotel.
